Special Educational Needs

The academy is committed to providing an ethos, environment and culture that are sympathetic to and understanding of the issues involved in providing a fair and appropriate education for students with special educational needs and/or disabilities. The academy believes that all students, including children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, should have an entitlement to, and the greatest possible access to, a broad and balanced education and should be integrated fully into all aspects of the academy. This should be done without stigma, prejudice or discrimination.

The academy’s Special Educational Needs provision is organised in accordance with The Code of Practice on the Identification and Assessment of Special Educational Needs. We seek to provide an appropriate educational programme for all pupils with special educational needs and organise for the teaching of small groups and individual children whenever possible. Pupils may receive support within the classroom or, on occasion, via individual or group interventions.  Parents are consulted and kept regularly informed of the measures taken and the progress made. The Local Authority’s services, e.g. the Psychological Service, are utilised when the need arises.
