Modern Foreign Language

The languages curriculum at Trinity Academy St Chad’s is designed to give pupils the knowledge and skills needed to become confident language learners who can express their ideas and thoughts in another language. The study of a foreign language gives pupils the opportunity to develop their communication skills, both in speech and writing, and encourages new ways of thinking. The curriculum helps to foster curiosity in pupils and to deepen their understanding of the world.

The languages curriculum at Trinity Academy St Chad’s is designed to deliver the national curriculum aims; knowledge is structured so that each term and year build upon one another and ensures pupils gain the essential knowledge within the areas of vocabulary building, phonics acquisition and grammatical understanding. Pupils simultaneously develop their skills within the areas of listening, reading, speaking and writing, and use the knowledge acquired to practice and improve these skills.

The curriculum is designed to ensure that pupils grow to be empathetic, honest and respectful learners who take responsibility for the world that they live in; the study of languages spans a wide range of cultures and traditions and pupils gain an appreciation of the way that others live and communicate with one another.

The depth of knowledge gained will give pupils the strong foundations for further learning of not only their first foreign language, but also future languages which, in turn, will broaden career and living prospects to pupils as the opportunity to work in a wide variety of countries and locations becomes accessible to them.

Spanish is taught throughout KS2, covering a wide range of topics.
